When I got clear about what I had been asking for, over the last few years, l had to admit that most of my requests were specific, about things and what I wanted to happen.
I had specific ideas about how I wanted to earn money. As well as my veterinary income, I had tried trading income, passive income and thought about making money from a Course in Miracle related business. I had asked the Holy Spirit to join me in some of my endeavours, yet even if I had asked him to join me in all of them, I still would have been asking for specific help.
When I see the problem as income related then I have limited the Holy Spirit’s help to a solution for that problem. The Holy Spirit or Jesus do not really provide help on the level of form even though we may experience that they do. Saying “Thank you Jesus for helping me achieve income that I wanted” is not really what we are thankful for. We would be further embedded in the dream, more attached to the externals and less motivated to return to our mind if Jesus was really helping us on that level.
Deep down we all hate God for not recognizing our specific requests which means that we have never forgiven God for not recognizing our individuality. God did not recognize the separation because it never happened.
Our way out of asking for specifics is to want to see the problem as it is and not as we have set it up. The problem can never be my income source or my lack of time to do the things I want. My problem can only be my belief in guilt in my mind. Asking for help to forgive my special relationships with money, time and work allows me to undo the guilt in my mind. Asking help to walk in daily forgiveness eventually allows us to generalize forgiveness to all circumstances and then we realize we have everything and indeed are everything. The everything in our mind can be experienced in the specifics of this world
We should not ask what to do or say but to see the problem as it really is. When we seemingly sincerely ask Jesus to “see the situation differently” we are often really asking what we should do differently. Seeing the situation differently means admitting we were wrong about the problem in the first place and we are open to learning what the problem really is. The answer to the problem of guilt in our minds is choosing forgiveness. The reflection of forgiveness in this world is specific but the true answer is an experience of forgiveness or love in our mind. To awaken we need to value and desire the true gift of peace and not get waylaid by the attraction of specific answers to specific questions.
It is really us as a separated mind, that translates the non specific into the specific. The ego spoke first and created a world of specifics, from the thought of separation in our minds. At the same moment the Holy Spirit gave us the non specific correction to the thought of separation.
Because we are so identified with form the correction in our mind needs to be reflected in this world to lead us out of the world and back to our mind. We need to be aware that when we ask for specifics and not for the experience of love in our mind, we are really asking Jesus to join us in this world and make it real. The Song of Prayer was added to the Course in Miracle to help with the confusion of asking for specifics.
…the ego always speaks first…the ego’s decisions are always wrong. T5.VI.3:5 & 4:2
Now you are being shown you can escape. All that is needed is you look upon the problem as it is, and not the way that you have set it up. T-27.VII.2:1-2
