Heaven is the decision I must make. I make it now, and will not change my mind, because it is the only thing I want. W138.12:5-6
I found myself meditating on Workbook Lesson 138 towards the end of the 2012 and at the count down to the New Year. When I was typing the words for this blog I made a mistake: I typed “Heaven is a decision I must make.” But heaven is the decision, the only decision and strangely not really a real decision at all:
You need to be reminded that you think a thousand choices are confronting you, when there is really only one to make. And even this but seems to be a choice… In this insanely complicated world, Heaven appears to take the form of choice, rather than merely being what it is….if you could solve this one (the choice for Heaven) the others are resolved with it, for all decisions but conceal this one by taking different forms. W 138.4:1-2 & 6:1,4
Unconsciously at times I still believe that heaven is just one choice among many that I need to make. But “the choice” is not “a choice” among many others. When I see many choices alongside the choice for heaven I’m confused – I think the choices of the world are of of and equal order to the choice for heaven. I think the choices of how to look after my needs and the needs of my family are what matters. When I make the individual, or personal concerns crucial then I’ve really decided against heaven. I’m pretending I’m still interested in choosing heaven but in reducing heaven to one choice among many I have already chosen against it. In seeing the decision for heaven as just one decision among the many I have made illusion real.
Deciding for heaven is not really a choice, because there cannot be a choice between something and nothing! Between what exists and what has no existence,
We recognize that we make a conscious choice between what has existence and what has nothing but an appearance of the truth. W138.11:2
A Course in Miracle is practical and it meets us where we are. It’s message joins with us when we’re concerned about the decisions of our personal lives and helps us realize that our concern originates in our mind’s decision for the ego. The Holy Spirit has a message for us that we don’t really understand because we are identified with being a body and yet the uniqueness of ACIM is that it’s non dualistic metaphysics is expressed in symbols and signs, words and images, to meet us where we believe we are, and lead us back to our mind’s choice.
Choosing depends on learning…knowledge is beyond the goals we seek to teach within the framework of this course. Ours are teaching goals, to be attained through learning how to reach them, what they are, and what they offer you. W138.5:1,4-5
As my desire for heaven grows I become increasingly aware of when I’m not choosing heaven. As my learning grows I see that my concern over the many choices of the world is really hiding my fear over making the one choice for heaven.
I join with you during 2013 to share the journey in learning to decide for heaven in the growing realization that it is all we ever wanted.
