Insight number six from the free PDF “The Power of Choice – 10 Insights on the Journey from Fear to Freedom” is:
Awareness of inner choice:
You know what inner choice you are making by becoming aware of how you feel. If you feel anything from the slightest twinge of annoyance to outright rage then you have chosen the ego as your teacher. If you feel a peaceful joy that is not dependent on external circumstances then you have chosen the Teacher of Happiness.
The secret is accepting that your feelings are not caused by external events but by an internal choice.

The above quote from the ACIM in Choice card number 21 from the Miracle Choice Board Game could be rewritten to say:
When you do not feel joyous you can be aware of two helpful things:
1. You have made a choice which is not consistent with who you are.
2. You can change your mind.
This really useful way of using feelings is the message of Miracle Card number 8, also from the Miracle Choice Board Game.
The ego uses negative feelings to point a finger and say that others have hurt my feelings. The ego never takes any responsibility for non joyous feelings, because the “advantage” of being a victim is the belief “I am never responsible”. I don’t have to change – you do! But depending on others to change so that you can feel better is asking to be miserable.
I love the way that Spirit uses negative feelings and gives them a different purpose. When you simply see your negative feeling as a result of an inner choice then you will no longer make a big deal about depression, misery, worry or anger. You will no longer see the negative feelings themselves as the problem. You will just be stimulated to make another choice if you are ready. If you are not ready to make another choice you can at least own the results of the choice you have already made.
