Different people come up with different answers to the question “Who am I?”
The ego answers the question “Who am I?” with:
You are the home of evil, darkness and sin. Workbook Lesson.93.1
God, Source or your Higher Self answers the question “Who am I?” with:
You are one Self, in perfect harmony with all there is, and all that there will be. You are one Self, the holy Son of God. Workbook Lesson 95.13
I personally don’t use the words “evil”, “sin” or “perfect” to describe who I think I am. Sometimes I think of myself as unworthy. Unworthy of the life I desire; unworthy of staying true to my spiritual path; unworthy of having an experience of constant happiness and joy.
I used to hate the important line in the Course “I am as God created me”. It is the title of four Workbook Lessons. Recently I have become less resistant to it. This morning I was able to go through Lesson 110 and let myself experience the power and importance of accepting the truth that “I am as God created me”. This is what Lesson 110 says about the importance of accepting this truth:
This one thought would be enough to save you and the world, if you believed that it is true.
In this one thought is all the past undone; the present saved to quietly extend into a timeless future. The healing power of today’s idea is limitless.
This is the Word of God that sets you free.
This is the key that opens up the gate of Heaven, and that lets you enter in the peace of God and His eternity.
Accepting that we are as God created us, brings such radical change, no wonder we all have resistance to accept who we really are! It means we have to give up thoughts of suffering, pain, fear and unworthiness.
We begin our lives believing the ego’s thought about who we are and so it takes time to gently let our self concept be changed, by Spirit. It could all happen in one instant and in fact it does! But our fear of our true Self is so great that we need time. We have all the time we need to get to realise that our self image is untrue and unreal. Not bad, evil, unworthy or sinful but just unreal.
