Are you using your sense of loneliness to motive you to find more friends or a partner?
Are you using your worry about money to get more income?
If your answer is “yes”, you’re not using your experience in the world to connect to your true self. You’re not going to find real happiness.
In this blog I’ll be quoting from Chapter 29 in the Text of A Course in Miracles (ACIM). ACIM uses the word “idol” to identify anything in the world that you think will make you happy.
“The world believes in idols. No one comes unless he worshipped them,
and still attempts to seek for one that yet might offer him a gift reality does not contain.”
ACIM asks and answers this very important question:
“What purpose has an idol, then? What is it for?
It must be more. It does not really matter more of what; more beauty,
more intelligence, more wealth, or even more affliction and more pain. But more of something is an idol for.”
If you’re using loneliness and concern to get more of something that the world can offer you’re missing the point. You’re using your distress and pain in a way that will not heal it.
Healing is using your desire for more money or pleasure to identify thoughts of lack, emptiness, dissatifaction, restlessness and loneliness. Then you realise that these thoughts reflect what’s going on at another level – the level of your mind or spirit. On that level you have thoughts of turning away from Love, even destroying Love. Thoughts of loosing your innocence, running away from your true home and separating with everyone who is one with you.
The true purpose of problems to see that your problems are not of the world but within your mind. There can never be a “solution” in the world that works because the problem is the fearful, painful, desperate thoughts in your mind that have come form a fearful choice. The only solution is changing your mind’s choice.
Logically, if the problem in internal, more friends or money will never solve it. Imagine having all he friends and money you could ever want and you haven’t healed your inner sense of lonelinss or lack? Would you be happy?
When you’re ready to use your problems for a different purpose, your higher Self or inner Guide will immediately help you. You might call that help a “miracle”, “forgiveness” or the ability to see what is really going on with your perceptions. You might have an image of taking the hand of your inner Guide. The words and the symbol do not matter. You will recognise you are supported to truly heal when you stop using the problems in your life to get more of something. When you genuinely ask “What is it for?” you will be taken on a journey to find the answer.
“If Heaven is within, why would you seek for idols that would make of Heaven less …? God gave you all there is. In Heaven would the Son of God but laugh, if idols could intrude upon his peace.”
