Have you ever wondered who is the image that you see in the mirror?
It might seem like a silly question because the answer seems obvious.
But is it really?
Who is the “you” who are living in this world?
A Course in Miracles Text-4.II.11:8
A few weeks ago, I looked into my eyes in the mirror and saw the “real” me looking back and it wasn’t a body! The me that I saw was the me that is a spirit, a soul, a being that exists beyond space and time.
How creepy is that?
But it isn’t.
It’s an experience you generally avoid or resist when you look into your own eyes or anyone’s eyes.
You’re never just looking at a person in a body or a separate individual.
You’re looking at an ego mind or spirit that thinks it’s a body.
That thinks it’s limited to or trapped in a body.
When you look in the mirror, the you who is spirit is always looking back.
For the most part it may be your ego but the realisation that you’re seeing a “you” that is not a body is an important experience.
You’re starting to disidentify with an identity that isn’t your true Self.
You’re seeing beyond form and even if you meet your ego self staring back, you’re still making enormous progress.
The physical image that’s not you fades in its importance as you realise you are spirit.
What you’ll do next will just happen naturally.
You will gently laugh as you think “Yes I’m not really a body”, “No-one is really a body” and you’re right!
Go now and look in a mirror!
Relax and go beyond approving or disapproving the image that you see.
What does the image in the mirror feel about you?
