You don’t like to be told that you create pain for yourself.
You would prefer to learn that someone else is responsible for your unhappiness.
You would prefer to blame circumstances for your misery.
It’s your experience that people upset you and when things don’t go the way you planned you become frustrated and impatient. So how can it be that you’re responsible for your pain?
You also experience that people make you happy and pleasure comes from getting what you want. Surely if people and things can make you feel good, they can also make you sad and upset?
That was my experience for most of my life and then I discovered I was mistaken. I realised I couldn’t trust my own experience because I had lost awareness of a hidden choice. Yes, I had chosen a purpose for my hurtful relationships, my negative thoughts and my being a victim of circumstances beyond my control but I had no memory of my decision.
It took me a long time to learn and accept that I was choosing the pain and it wasn’t just happening to me. The good news, of course, was that now I could really do something about it. No one or nothing could save me. So my journey began. I learned how to use everything in my life to look inside and discover my inner choice.
