Who has never felt angry?
How many times have we tried to put it down or, instead, let it out aggressively, verbally or physically?
In this way, we are identifying with it, strengthening it (even when we try to ignore it), and letting that emotion be the master of the situation.
Well, this week I found out, when reading a text that is part of a campaign in Britain to reduce violence, that it apparently takes 90 seconds for the anger to pass.
What does that mean?
That it does not have to be something uncontrollable, dangerous or destructive and that you can be in control.
You breathe and wait.
Feel the adrenaline go by without having to react.
Give yourself time and, if necessary, you simply leave.
You know that whatever is happening is fleeting and will not last all day or a lifetime.
You will soon go back to thinking normally, from who you are and not from an impulse.
It was not the end of the world, but only a strong emotion that arose and left in 90 seconds.
So it is with all the “negative” or undesirable feelings that you judge and try to avoid.
Not maybe the 90 seconds as in the case of anger, but they will pass.
It doesn’t matter if it is sadness, frustration, disappointment or whatever.
Everything comes and goes.
It’s just feelings, not exactly who you are or your reality forever.
Embrace it, let it in, breathe, shout and cry if necessary, transform it and let it go.
By the way, 90 seconds is the average time it takes to read this text.
See how fast it goes?
