The Choice is a real-life story, that reminds you that you always have a choice of how you look and experience life, regardless of circumstances. No exceptions.
This inspiring book is written by the equally inspiring and Holocaust survivor Dr. Edith Eger and it came into my hands at the beginning of the year. I simply could not let go! I spent the few days around the New Year immersed in the incredible story of this woman who, at 16, was taken to Auschwitz with her family. Even though she lost her parents in the early days and lived through the horrors of war alongside her sister, she chose not to victimize herself or give up, but to access her inner strength not only to survive, but to live and dream of a free and happy future. In the years that followed the war, she found in forgiveness the possibility to free her traumas from the past and help others on this path of healing.
For those who know me, they know that I love the subject of inner choice and, more than anything, I love living it! And there is nothing more inspiring than a living example of it. I am very grateful to Dr. Edith Eger for bringing her beautiful message into the world and into my life.
I recommend that you read and be inspired by this book and be reminded (or convinced, if appropriate) that you are the owner of your own life and how you want to live it. Really.
“The greatest prison is in our own mind and the key is in our own pocket” – Dr. Edith Eger
Dr. Edith Eger was 90 when she wrote this book. How do you feel about that for an empowered woman? My blog on Empowerment follows below.
I love that word! It’s my 2020 motto.
Just reading the word, I feel warmth and strength in my chest.
This power comes from within, not from without.
Not the power to control, dominate or be better than others.
But that of being connected to our essence, of expressing our greater potential and of radiating this gift in the most varied ways.
And also, to remember who we really are, for what we are here and what unites us and makes us one.
In contrast, if we identify with the weak, small and impossible and do nothing about it, that is how life goes: limited. Despite any difficulty or challenge you may be experiencing, I believe that deep down your desire to honour and live your greatness is still present.
Below I leave a small summary and steps for you to empower yourself now and always.
ACCEPT WITHOUT RESIGNATION – Accept who you are and where you are now. Without resignation, accept with love and compassion what has happened so far and the limitations and imperfections that you imagine you are or have.
MAKE A DIFFERENT CHOICE, NOW – It is here and now that your power is. The power to remember the possibility to continue in a different way, to transform, to grow, to be more. And this begins with the way you decide to look at yourself, life and possibilities. Every thought is a new choice, and every choice is a new step toward what you want for your life.
NOURISH THIS FEELING – Be conscious and selective in choosing what you want to engage with: what conversation, book, activity, film, blog post and, most importantly, thought is nurturing my empowerment?” Do they encourage, inspire, awaken, stimulate, strengthen or encourage you to grow?
PAY ATTENTION AND USE YOUR GPS – Observe and recognize your emotions. They are your inner compass for what you want and where you are going. Are these feelings driving you towards the life you want (on a physical, emotional, mental or spiritual level)? If necessary, adjust your thoughts, your expectations and your route.
REMEMBER THAT EMPOWERMENT COMES FROM INSIDE – Life is full of stimuli, but in the end, it is you who chooses what you want to be and how you want to live! Don’t wait for circumstances to change so that you can empower yourself and feel happy. This is a big ego trap. You have the strength to empower yourself now, this minute, this instant, no matter what context you are in. How? By choosing how to look at yourself and the world. That’s where your power lies.
