Months ago, when more people started wearing masks, in this covid19 time, I didn’t like looking at them. It was not just that people seem to be more shut away than usual, but I felt more separate from them. Separated because not only was their face in the way of seeing their essential nature but now a mask as well.
I had something to learn of course about the true nature of reality!
Do I really believe that others are shut away behind a face and now covered up with a mask as well?
It’s hard to look at people if I see them as trapped.
I use a mask every day when I work in the Small Animal Hospital. In the beginning I was uncomfortable wearing one. I imagined I was hiding or cutting myself off from others. But what was my experience?
I started to pay close attention to my experience behind the mask without letting my imagination run away with me. I didn’t feel covered up by it any more than I felt trapped behind my face. I could see a band of material at the bottom of my field of vision almost like my world now had a border at the bottom. How pretty!
My experience helped me realise that others feel and see the same way I do. Imagining other people’s true self trapped behind a mask (and a face) is simply not the truth.
If you feel you are trapped or separate from others when you are wearing a mask, stop thinking.
Become aware if you are using your imagination in a way that doesn’t serve you.
Are you any more trapped by a mask than you are trapped behind a face?
In reality are you not always open and accepting of the world?
Once you see your essential self as it is, you see you are not vulnerable (to viruses or anything) or hidden from anything. Then wearing a mask and seeing others wearing one is not a big deal. You want to take care of your human self after all.
