Just a quick look at your own life and the lives of the people around you is enough to see a
truth that unites us all: we are all looking for happiness and trying to get rid of suffering.
The problem is that we do not know what are the causes of happiness are, nor do we know
that we are creating our own suffering.
What we call happiness – something totally based on our circumstances, that is, everything
that we can’t control – although possible to achieve, is fleeting and temporary. The feeling is
that the more goals we have in our lives, as soon as we achieve them, the momentary
happiness fades and this moves us towards our next goal, this is an exhaustive and
endless search cycle.
Ask yourself this question: how many people are healthy, have a wonderful family and
friends, material possessions, professional achievements and are still not happy? When our
search for happiness is based on these uncontrollable variables, we become miserable
On the other hand, the more we reverse our search and direct it inward; that is, in the
direction of understanding the functioning of our mind and emotions, we open up to new
horizons and experience genuine happiness, which does not depend on anything or anyone
and, therefore, is true and available to everyone.
From a broader view and deep intimacy with the functioning of our own mind, we discover
that it is possible to be happy regardless of what is happening. And the more genuinely
happy we are, the greater our capacity to love. People will no longer need to behave in a
certain way, as we free them from the role of making us happy.
And when I speak of love, I speak of wishing authentic happiness for all beings. It is
impossible to get all beings to fulfill their specific desires. However, it is possible for all
beings to recognize the true causes of happiness and to be truly happy.
Imagine looking at loved ones, friends, family, children, partners and even unknown people
who are suffering and we do not know how to help them, and wish for enlightenment, the
release of suffering, the realization of genuine happiness. Behind someone who suffers,
there is a free mind! Do you realize how small it is to look at our loved ones and wish they get a good job, are healthy and able to reach their individual goals? These things, though very nice, will never
make them happy!
When we understand and seek genuine happiness for ourselves, we will know that our only
desire should be that of enlightenment. This is a safe way back home, back to the memory
of who we always were. This is the path that all true spiritual teachers are trying to point
I wish, from the bottom of my heart, that you remember that the only way to happiness is
within yourself. I wish you to live true happiness. I am sure that when we are truly happy,
we will transform the whole world.
